STAN BOLTON SECRETARY & TREASURER

WHEN I FIRST STARTED WITH LIZARD CANARIES IN 1966, EAST ANGLIA WAS THE HOT BED FOR OUR BREED. SEVERAL OF THE LCA COMMITTEE MEMBERS WERE FROM EAST ANGLIA SUCH AS GORDON PLUMB AND BOB RAINBIRD FROM IPSWICH AND RUEBON HARVEY FROM BURNHAM MARKET. ALSO THE GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE LCA LEN WOODS LIVED AT IPSWICH. BECAUSE OF THIS THE 2 COUNCIL MEETINGS EACH YEAR WERE HELD AT LEN'S HOME.

AT THAT TIME MOST TOWNS IN EAST ANGLIA HAD AN OPEN BIRD SHOW AND NEARLY ALL OF THEM HAD CLASSES FOR LIZARDS. I CAN REMEMBER SEEING ENTRIES OF ONE HUNDRED PLUS OF OUR SPANGLED BEAUTIES AT SHOWS SUCH AS IPSWICH, NORWICH, STOWMARKET, HAVERHILL, PERKINS AT PETERBOROUGH AND ONE YEAR WHEN I JUDGED MY LOCAL SHOW AT WISBECH, I HAD 102 LIZARDS WHICH WAS VERY GOOD AS THEY LOST MY 12 TO 16 ENTRIES.

BECAUSE OF THE POPULARITY OF THE LIZARD CANARY THE EAST ANGLIAN LCA WAS FORMED IN 1978. THREE YEARS LATER WHEN I TOOK OVER AS CHAIRMANS FROM BOB RAINBIRD WE HAD 32 MEMBERS. AT THAT TIME WE HAD ONE CLUB SHOW AND 7 FULL PATRONAGE SHOWS AND WE MADE SURE THAT THE CLUB SHOW WAS CAPABLE OF 100 ENTRIES AND THE FULL PATRONAGE SHOWS 50. WHILST I WAS CHAIRMAN THERE WAS ONLY ABOUT HALF THE MEMBERS THAT SHOWED THEIR BIRDS, THE OTHER HALF WERE JUST HAPPY TO GET THEIR 2 NEWSLETTERS EACH YEAR SO THEY COULD KEEP UP WITH WHAT WAS HAPPERNING ON THE LIZARD FRONT IN EAST ANGLIA.

OUR FIRST ALL LIZARD HAD AN ENTRY OF 202 BIRDS WITH THE RECORD BEING 269 WHEN STAN INSALL AND MYSELF WERE JUDGING. THESE GOOD ENTRIES WERE HELPED VERY MUCH BY THE WONDERFUL SUPPORT FROM THE SOUTH, MIDLANDS AND THE NORTH EAST. THE PRESENT DAY ALL LIZARD ALSO GETS WONDERFUL SUPPORT FROM THE SOUTH AND THE MIDLANDS AND I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY IN THANKING THESE EXHIBITORS WHO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCES TO SUPPORT OUR SHOW.
I HOPE YOU CAN ALL MAKE IT AGAIN ON 21st OCTOBER AND I WISH YOU ALL A SUCCESSFUL DAY.
